벨타코, 폐타이어 업사이클 디자인 주목

신예 디자이너 기업 벨타코(대표 이세정 beltaco.co.kr)가 업사이클 토털패션 컴퍼니로 최근 주목을 받고있다. 벨타코는 폐타이어를 활용해 산성비에 강한 가방용 재생고무 소재의 원단을 개발, 이를 활용해 '디자인 벨타코(Design Beltaco)' 브랜드의 가방을 론칭했다.
'디자인 벨타코' 가방이 만들어 지는 과정은 폐타이어와 자동차에 사용됐던 폐고무를 수거하는 단계부터 시작된다. 이어서 불순물을 제거하고 세척해 1mm 미만의 크기로 분쇄한 폐타이어 고무를 270도 이상의 온도에서 압축해 얇은 원단 형태로 만든후 디자인 과정을 거쳐 가방 완제품으로 이뤄진다.
업사이클링 제품으로 출시된 디자인 벨타코 가방은 토트백과 숄더백 캔버스백 클러치백 등이며, 토트백은 28만~48만원, 클러치 9만원 등 고가 라인으로 소개됐다.
벨타코의 업사이클링 가방류는 지난 2017년 서울신진디자이너컬렉션에서 소개됐으며, 이후 국내보다 미국과 중동에서 보다 관심을 끌고 있다.
이세정 벨타코 대표는 "미국과 듀바이 바이어들이 자신의 브랜드가 새겨진 업사이클링 백을 주문해 옵니다. 그린 디자인을 원칙으로 의류 폐기물을 생산하지 않는 철학을 고수하며, 생명의 존엄성과 환경의 중요성을 인식하는 것 역시 디자이너의 윤리적 책임감이라고 생각합니다. 앞으로 방글라데시를 비롯 동남아 주변국에서 파생되는 건축자재 중 업사이클 또는 리사이클이 되는 소재도 적극 발굴할 계획입니다." 라고 설명을 더했다.
한편 이세정 대표는 패션을 전공한 언론 기자 출신이며, 전공을 살려 패션디자이너의 길로 복귀해 '디자인 벨타코' 가방 브랜드와 함께 '아레나 발삼(Arena Balssam)' 이라는 여성복 브랜드를 전개하고 있기도 하다.

Fashion is a medium of culture for humans and design philosophy must culminate in environmental awareness and social phenomena.”
With a focus on practicality and functionality, I want to create a world where humans and nature coexist.
The design must consider not only convenience but also an ethical position.
A good consumption culture is that I’m aiming and challenging for.
I believe that
